U.T. QUINTET NO MATCH FOR FAST-GOING WILDCATS

Still suffering from the effects of injury and badly demoralized as a result of disorganization, the University of Tennessee quintet presented a weak defense against the fast traveling Kentucky State five and as a consequence, went down to defeat by the score of 29 to 18 at the Y.M.C.A. Friday.

The Wildcats played a superior game in every department, there was not a weak spot on the team. The passing was wonderful and from the very start it was evident that the Kentuckians would romp home with the big end of the score.

The visiting five is composed of well developed, fast players, who know the game from A to Z which was demonstrated. On the other hand the U.T. players were bewildered and could not fathom the attack of their opponents.

An unpleasant incident occurred in the second half when Captain Wexler and Shanklin became entangled in a mix up. Fists began to fly, but the scrap was short lived however, as Referee Fisher properly sent both men from the game and other players were substituted.

Coach R.H. Fitzgerald sent in substitutes in the second half in an effort to overcome the Kentucky State lead of 15-6 when the first period was concluded. The players worked hard but they could not keep apace of their opponents who seemed to be going as good in the concluding half as they were at the start.

One redeeming feature of the conflict was the wonderful playing of Jimmy Lovell, who gave the best he had for his alma mater to secure victory. He was in every play and worked hard every minute. Frank Callaway started the game with a badly bruised shoulder, but it was evident that he could not last. Coach Fitzgerald removed him from the game before the second half and Lovell went to the center position with Schubert on the forward line.

Thomas, Shanklin and Marsh played a wonderful game for the Wildcats, their passing and shooting was the best seen on the local floor this year. It was the work of these players that made victory possible.
