MIAMI IS BADLY BEATEN BY STATE

Ohio Boys Fail to Make Things Interesting for Local Team and Basket Ball Score Is 24 to 16

Punishment in the form of a 24 to 16 score was meted out to the Miami University basketball team by the State University five on the Armory floor Thursday night. Although the score was very close at times the game lacked the dash and vim of former contests and only in the final period after a few minutes rest, did the melee assume the aspect of two real live teams fighting. Both teams became winded before the first half had ended and were unable to keep up the fast pace set at the beginning. Scott, the running mate for Tuttle at guard, was not in the game on account of a bad arm sustained in practice. Zerfoss played for Scott.

The first half ended with the locals in the lead 12 to 6. In the second period the visitors made a desperate effort to overcome the lead and for awhile they were within four points of tieing the score. However, the State team gingered up a little and threw a few baskets giving them a comfortable lead.

Captain Barnett for State played a fine game and was in the heat of the fray at all times. Preston led in the numbers of goals thrown for State, and Pruden was the mainstay of the visiting aggregation.

STATE TEAM BEATS MIAMI UNIVERSITY

Kentuckians Win Savagely Contested Game by Score of 24 o 16

State University basketball team added another victory to its list last night, when it met and defeated the fast Miami University quintet, of Oxford, Ohio, in the State Armory by the score of 24 to 16.

The game was close and savagely contested at all times, neither team having a decided advantage. The State boys not playing in the best of form, were unable to locate the baskets and missed many chances to score. In the final period they got together and tossed three goals in quick succession, which stopped the rush of the Miami boys and probably won the game. The visitors played a hard consistent game, but were not good enough to win.

State was he first to score when Tuttle tossed a goal, Morgan was the next to count with a goal. The visitors first point was made by Pruden on a free throw. Preston then got in the game and shot a basket. Pruden followed with the only field goal that Miami got in the initial half. The half ending with the count 12 to 6 in favor of State to the last period the visitors took a brace and put up a lively scrap.

Barnett and Preston shone for State in basket shooting, while Pruden was probably the best the Ohio's possessed.
