Marietta's Don Drumm Succumbs
MARIETTA, Ohio (UPI) - Don D. Drumm, who served Marietta College for more than 40 years, died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital here. He was admitted six days before his death.
Drumm was a football player and coach before being named athletic director. He retired in 1959 and in 1963 was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree from the college.
The one-time professional football player started his athletic career in 1906 at Marietta Academy. He earned 18 letters in football, basketball and baseball during four years at the academy and two at Marietta College.
On weekends between 1912 and 1916, Drumm played football for the Canton Bulldogs, then in the National Football League. Among his teammates were Jim Thorpe and Don Hamilton.
His wife, Phyllis, survives.
Services will be held Thursday at Marietta.
